Due to the changes brought about by CCMS, our software is undergoing frequent releases containing enhancements to the applications Kiincare and KiincareCcms. We are also simultaneously migrating our system from a database stored in an Omnis Studio datafile to one stored in Microsoft Sql Server. The new database server environment is far more sophisticated than the earlier solution, but has special requirements regarding installation. Also, we are migrating the application itself from an Omnis Studio windows application to a Microsoft .net windows application. We estimate by March 2009, the Omnis Studio application (Kiincare) will become obsolete, and only the Microsoft .net application (KiincareCcms) will be required. KiincareCcms will only work with a Sql Server database. Until that date, there will many software releases where much of the functionality of the Kiincare application will be gradually moved into the KiincareCcms application

Major Release
A major release is recognisable by the 0 at the end of the version number, for example
1.8.0, 1.9.0 etc. Major releases are mandatory upgrades and cannot be
skipped.
Minor Release
A minor release is recognisable by the incremental numbers greater than zero at the end of the version number, for example 1.8.20, 1.8.34 etc. Minor releases are not mandatory upgrades and can be skipped if a later release exists.

Major Releases are mandatory and can be easily downloaded and installed. When they are available, they must be installed on all computers where Kiincare software is running. They may be accompanied by some additional prerequisite installations, such as Microsoft or 3rd party software vendor updates. The installation package will guide you through the process and may contain specific instructions pertaining to the release.
Initial installation of KiincareCcms software is managed with assistance from our help desk. It is a 2-step process. Firstly the database is installed and afterwards the applications are installed. The database installation CD will be sent to new Ccms Centres by Australia Post. The installer is also available in 2 download forms from the website, if it needs to be downloaded. This will be the case if the CD hasn't arrived or if it can't be read for some reason. The database installer exists in 2 versions, large and small. The larger version contains all the software required by the installation process. The smaller version does not include prerequisite software, such as .Net 2.0 Framework, or Sql Server 2005 Express Edition. The prerequisite software is only installed if it isn't present on the target machine. With the smaller installer, when prerequisite software is required, it will be downloaded automatically from the vendor's website. The larger installer has the downloaded software included with the setup application and no further downloads are required when launched.
