Windows Update
Windows Update is a service provided by Microsoft for users of Microsoft Windows. It provides updates for the operating system and its installed components.
Microsoft Update is an optional feature that can be enabled to provide updates for other Microsoft software installed on a Windows computer, such as Microsoft Sql Server.
In Vista, Windows Update is included in Control Panels. Before installing Nepean software, ensure your computer has all the latest updates from Microsoft by visiting or running
Windows Update. It can be accessed
here.
Windows Vista Operating System
If you are using Windows Vista as your operating system, there are further prerequisites.
Set
Windows Update to deliver updates to more programs and services, in particular, Microsoft Office and Microsoft Sql Server.
By default Windows Update for Windows Vista only delivers updates for the Windows Vista operating system. Set Windows Update to Get Updates For More Products:
- Click the Start orb, All Programs, and then select Windows Update.
- Click Get updates for more products located at the bottom of the Windows
Update window.
- You’ll be taken to a website where you must accept their terms of
service and then download and install an add-on for Windows Updated that
enables it to deliver updates to more programs and services.
- When the add-on is installed Windows Update will be restarted and it
will check for updates.
Turn off
User Account Control (UAC) before installation of Kiincare. Afterwards, if desired, it can be turned back on, though certain configuration steps will be required
for Sql Server Express Edition to work with applications such as Kiincare. Instructions for turning off UAC can be found

Puchase WinZip compression utility
In order to significantly reduce the time it takes to transfer files over the interent, particularly database backups, compression software is a necessity.
WinZip is the industry standard and it can be obtained
here.
